I belong to Ngati Raukawa and live at Otaki.
I claim the land which has been gazette as Ahitangutu. Awaroa is the correct name.
I recognize this land. It belongs to me. I claim it because it was my parents. They lived and cultivated on it. I have also lived on it. When I went north, I left some of my relations in charge. I had it surveyed. There was no obstruction. I wish an order in my own name.

Ngahora claims to be admitted because he was in occupation.

I belong to Ngati Kapu. I live at Awaroa on this land. I got the land from my brothers. They took possession of it when they first came. I have also lived there up to the present.

I live at Otaki and am Ngati Raukawa.
I object to Ranapiri’s claim to the whole of 55 and part of 56.
It was found that an order for Pukehou No. 5G had been made which included the pieces now before the court. No minute seems to be entered in the minute book with reference to this block.
The claimant was informed that an external boundary would have to be surveyed and an application must be sent for a subdivision. After which the general dist. Map was produced which showed the piece called Pukehou No. 5G

I live at Otaki and belong to Ngati Raukawa.
I belong to this land and want it for myself and other persons named in the notice.
Part of the land belongs to me from my ancestors and the other part belongs to Henare. We all now claim the land. No interruption was made to the survey.

I claim to be admitted because it belonged to my brothers when they went away to Ohau they left it to me.
I objected to Kipa and his grandmother claiming this land. I have always been looking out for this land. I pointed out the boundary to the other claimants. I was not present at the survey.

Peena was the name of my brother who gave the land. Paretawhare and others were in occuptation of the land. I have no one here that could give evidence as to the gift.
Hoani Kuiti appeared and objected altogether to a portion of the land.

I claim a portion on the North West side. My parents cultivated there. I never did but used to work outside the boundary. I did not see the survey done. I was away at Wairarapa. I wanted the claimants to cut my portion. The land adjoining has been awarded to my relations.

1872 was when I was at Wairarapa.
I don’t know that Mr Carkeek surveyed the land. My cultivations were outside the boundaries. I know that Kipa put up a fence but did not know that you and Hema pulled it down.
Kipa appeared and put in the same claim as the previous witness.

Kipa Te Whatanui – sworn
I said I live at Otaki and belong to Ngati Raukawa.
I claim a portion the same as that of last witness. The land belonged to Whatanui. He gave it to Kuruho at Napier. I heard this.
The land on the north of Kaingaraki stream belongs to me that on the other side belongs to Paranihia and others. I heard that Hoani Kuiti’s parents lived there.

The land which I claimed before the court was given to my grandmother and I claim this for her. She did not include this piece in her survey because she knew there would be a dispute.
Tauteka Taiunuku – sworn
I belong to Otaki and am a Ngati raukawa.
I heard that Kuruho and Napier share this portion which includes a karaka grove to Paranihia. I saw Paranihia live on the north side of Kaingaraki stream which was the place where she used to steep her corn.
I went out with Ranapiri and all the rest. Ranapiri went to object to the northern boundary and others to some others and they told Kipa to alter his boundary. Paranihia agreed to do as they wished and alter the post. I know this was done.

Henare Roera – sworn
I live at Otaki. I belong to Ngati Raukawa and Ngati Huia.
I have seen the boundary of the claimants. It is about 20 chains away from that shown me by my parents. I told the surveyor that he had encroached on my land. I was not present at the survey. My grandparents cultivated on this part.
I could not swear that the cultivations were considered but could swear they were outside.
Claim not entertained.
