Typed on card glued to front (top) of mounting board, as caption: “Hotel Arcadia. Top storey was burnt & removed in 1912.”
Penciled on back : “27 CII”
Additional information supplied verbally: “Arcadia Private Hotel. Run by John & Elizabeth McFarlane, 1919-1941 (or later). John also ran a taxi.”
Two small children dressed in white are outside the Hotel Arcadia on the northeastern corner of the intersection of Bath Street and Oxford Street, Levin, prior to 1912. The hotel is a wooden structure of three stories, two of which remain today (2001) In this photograph Oxford Street is an unsealed road with a gas light and a telegraph pole in the centre of the road.
