Inscription on reverse reads: “Mr W Thorley’s house Tiro Tiro Rd still standing 1977 although altered considerably. Property owned by Mr Luhrs. Negative in Turnbull Library. W Thorley photographer. See note in the City of Auckland wreck photograph for donation information.”

W. Thorley’s house in TiroTiro Road, Levin. The weatherboad house has an iron roof with a brick chimney and a verandah on two sides of the house. In this photograph two women stand on the verandah and a man with a hoe in his hands is standing in the garden which surrounds the house. A macracarpa hedge is behind the house. This house was still standing in 1977 although somewhat altered.

Miss Bowen's House

Inscription on reverse reads: ” Miss Bowen’s house. Donated Mr Joyce 3/77 No 2 Karaka Cres, Levin see also Miss H E Bowen Built late 1905 for TAB Hudson.”

Miss Bowen’s house at 2 Karaka Crescent Levin. This weatherboard house with an iron roof has two brick chimneys and a verandah on two sides. A false turret is attached to the verandah. This house was built in 1905.

'Lakeside', H.H. McDonald residence

Written on back with black ballpoint pen: ”’Lakeside’, H.H. McDonald residence.”

‘Lakeside’, the home of Hector Hugh McDonald, situated on what is now (2001) Golf Course Road. This house no longer stands, but the large macracarpa trees in the background still remain.

Heatherlea Homestead

Written on back with blue ballpoint pen: “Heatherlea Homestead.”

Embossed mounting board.

Heatherlea Homestead, Heatherlea East, Levin. A weatherboard house with an iron roof with elaborate brick chimneys. There are verandahs on bothsides of the house which has its front door set between two bay windows. Each of the bay windows has three sash windows and coloured glass surrounds the front door. Wooden steps lead to the slightly recessed front door. Mrs Hector McDonald (Agnes), R A McDonald, her son, three unidentified women and two babies sit at the front of the house.

Inscribed on reverse with blue ballpoint pen: “Copy of photograph. Bartholomew Home, 8 Roslyn Rd.” and

“donated by Mr A. Goodwin, 14 Donegal St., Avondale. May 76.”

Also penciled on back: “letter to accompany in research notes.”

Bartholomew Home, 8 Roslyn Road, Levin. This wooden villa faces west and has an iron roof with weandahs facing the south and west. Three chimneys are visable above the roofline. Two women and a man are standing onthe west facing verandah, and the Tararua ranges are in the background. Trees behind the house have recently been burnt off. The high fences in the front of the house were used to keep several kangaroos, which were pets of the Bartholomew family, enclosed

H H Ostler (brother to Helen Wilson – early pioneering woman of Horowhenua) stands at the left of this photograph, outside a ponga log whare, as used by early settlers, c.1888.

Inscription on reverse reads: “Dear Ivy, Please excuse this card being so dirty, but its one I came across in a shop, and it is rather soiled. as ity was only for show. and was in the window. The cross marks our house and the line the Main Street so we are quite close to town Rollie”

An abandoned and derelict house on Roslyn Road, Levin. The weatherboard building with an iron roof has had the doorways and windows covered with roofing iron. A number of cows graze in the padock surrounding the house, and a number of macrocarpa trees stand behind the building.

Hatcham Cottage

Inscription on reverse reads: “This is a photograph of my grandfather’s, Theopholes Easton, home (Hatcham Cottage) built by him in Howan Street – Foxton about 1870. It is still in a wonderful state of preservation and is recorded in the Historical Places Trust in Auckland along with the specifications of the interior. Charles Edward Peterson 18/8/81.”
