Letter (information) writtten with black pen: “Maori canoe amongst raupo at north end of Horowhenua Lake, early 1930’s (approached from angle of Kawiu Road, east side of swamp). The young woman were - Frances Pyke (later Mrs M. Duguid), Probably, Nancy Trisleton, Beverley Aplin (later Mrs M. or W. Barclay), One at far end of canoe, Lynne York (later Mrs E.S. Beverly). Would not know whether it was in use at that time, though obviously there was a paddle. The canoe did not appear to be waterproof. F.D.”

Three women, one with a paddle in her hands, in a waka at Lake Horowhenua, c1930.
