James Ransfield (h.c) applied on behalf of the natives assembled in Otaki for an adjournment of the court until Monday or Tuesday in consequence of the death of Matene Te Whiwhi the leading chief of this coast.

After consideration, the court adjourned till 10 am on Monday 3^rd October.
