Trees and Gardens around Levin and area, Photos mainly during 2018 to show what a beautiful town Levin is.
Born in Marton in 1920 but spent all his life in Levin, died in 2013, a very community minded man who spent much of his life helping his fellow man and the community of Levin.
For many years since i started my apprenticeship in Levin in the 1950's there has been talk about easing the traffic conjestion in Levins' main Street, "Oxford Street". In those days with no traffic lights it could be difficult moving around town. Trucks were getting bigger and longer, cattle trucks didn't have facilities to catch effluent which then spilt on to the roadway.
Discussions started about having a by-pass around the town. And now after a sixty years wait it looks like this may happen.
As a matter of interest, for histories sake, i have taken and entered a few photos about the traffic passing through Oxford Street in 2018.
LEVIN Township is growing at a fast rate and is expanding very quickly. Much of this activity is being brought on by the improvement expanding road improvements between Wellington and Levin. The new Highway from Transmission Valley through to Foxton and Shannon. New factories are being built, older factories are being rebuilt and expanded, many industries are moving from the Wellington area to Horowhenua area. Also many of the existing buildings need extensive renovations to meet the earthquake safety requirements.More infrastructure and housing for workers will also have to built. It appears Levin is on the move. This project will show many of the building as they are in the year 2018 and how they will appear as time moves on.
In 2016 the church building was no longer being used as a church - the congregation having merged with the Levin Uniting Church in Oxford Street, Levin.
24 February 2017 a new church group has been formed, known as the "Levin Hope Centre" have purchased the building, with the intention to restore and use it.
