The first photo shows Hector McDonald in a canoe, possibly the Hamaria on the Hokio Stream. Taken from the Te Maai ridge looking west. Eel weir in mid picture and Hector Jnr’s home “Lakeside” in the background. Inscription reads, “cf photo taken by Miss Picken in 1977 from same position”. Also, “Looking downstream to the home of Hector McDonald Junior, canoe, eel weir and odd houses with…..(remainder unreadable)”.

The second photo is also taken from Te Maai ridge, but looking east. Inscription beneath photo, “Not this.”

Foxton Boating and Sailing Club c. 1910

Foxton Boating and Sailing Club c.1910. Established in the early 1900s the club ran until the mid 1930s. This photograph shows a yacht on the Manawatu River near the Foxton wharf. In the centre of the photograph are the Foxton Boating and Sailing Club buildings, and in the distance the back of the Foxton Hotel.

Ladies’ Boat Race, Horowhenua Lake Regatta, 1908. The group in the boat closest to the camera are Mrs H Ambler and Mrs Maud Clark (rowing) and Mr Arthur Smart (cox). The grandstand on top of the boathouse was capable of holding 200 spectators.
