Opening of Memorial Gates at Shannon School, 28 November 1940. This concrete arched gateway was erected to commemorate the school’s Golden Jubilee 1889 – 1939. A group of seven people gathered at school gates including from left to right:- an unidentified woman, Mr R.J. Law (Chairman Jubilee Committee), Mr E.J. Butt (Mayor), Mrs F. Jamieson, an unidentified woman, Mrs E.J. Spencer. In the front is Bob Gyde the youngest school pupil, who cut the ribbon to declare gates open.
