Mr William and Mrs Himalaya Bullard. The note on the card on which the photograph is mounted reads: “Mr William Bullard (1857 – 1956) came from Bulls and began a saddlery business where the Main Street Dairy is now. In 1889 he married Himalaya Osborne and they lived in Foxton for the rest of their lives at 51 Avenue Road.”

Butt family, Shannon. In this photograph Queenie Butt (nee Shaw) and her husband Edwin (Ernest) stand behind a wooden fence. Their four children atand and sit in front of the fence. They are not positively identified but their names could be Molly, Dorothy and Ned. The second son has not been named.

The book “From Bush & Swamp”, identifies the second Mayor of Shannon as Edwin Joseph Butt, 1926-41.

This is possibly the occasion of an entertainment for Miss Bowen by the Women’s Society of Levin & District on 22 Sept 1948.

Mary Burling Aged 66

Mary Burling aged 66 in 1909. This European woman is wearing a dress with a high neckline and long sleeves which are tight between the elbow and the wrist. A wide belt with an ornamental buckle is at her waist and a brooch fastens the neck of her dress.
