An article in the Chronicle 4th June 2010 Kotuku Sea Scouts are in the process of fixing up one of their old boats - and they have a deadline to meet. They are hoping to have it ready for their 50th Anniversary celebrations in September this year. The troop has grown too big to fit in their other boat and they want to have competitions within the troop so they need another boat to do that. The 17 foot kauri cutter was built in 1967 and has served hundreds of Kotuku Sea Scouts in its time training on Lake Horowhenua and at regattas in Wellington. With a little bit of hard work it will be back in order to serve hundreds more. "We want to make sure the old boys see their boats are still in good order," Group Leader Keith Christensen says " We've only just announced the date of the reunion and already a couple of people have booked flights back to Levin to be here. There's a fair amount of passion about the group so it looks like the reunion will be a big event." Any old Sea Scouts who want to be involved in restoration of the boat or the reunion are encouraged to contact Keith on 368 3533.
