The Kotuku Sea Scouts, Levin, have achieved a notable record in competitions during the 1976-77 season with crews and teams occupying the top placings in most events. They finished the season with the highest aggregate pintsfor all events including the swimming sports to take the Denton Cup in first place. they are particularly proud of this achievement as the second placed group, Brittannia, Evans Bay, are the current holders of the Jellicoe Trident for top placing at the National Regatta in 1977. The Trident is the most coveted award in New Zealand for Sea Scouting. Details of the events are: At the Tawa pool in August last year, the younger members wond the Cub Shield, the Scouts the Townsend trophy and the Venturers were in third place. At the Invitation Regatta at Worser Bay, in November, the Sea Scouts won the overall ponits trophy, were placed first in the junior rowing, first in intermediate rowing, second in the senior event and first in junior cutter sailing. At Evans Bay in February in the Hickson Trophy Regatta, the Sea Cadets, Sea Scouts, Sea Rangers and RNZVR, were second in overall points, first in junior rowing, intermediate rowing, junior cutter sailing and second in senior rowing, open rowing, senior cutter sailing and third in junior sunburst sailing. In March at the Wellington Area regatta at Evans Bay, the Sea Scoutsand Rangers secured the Tenderfoot Cupfor first placing in the junior rowing, the Wooden Oar, first in intermediate rowing, the British Seaman Society Cup, first in senior rowing and they were second in open rowing and junior sunburst sailing and third in intermediate cutter sailing. Finally, in April at the Kapiti regatta, they won the Dimond Industries Cup for the first placing in the Scout cutter sailing event.
