Three unidentified members of Manawatu Tramping Club assembling Memorial Trig, April 1937 With other members of tramping club spent Anzac Weekend (24-25 April) erecting a Memorial Trig on ‘Twin Peak’ in memory of fellow member Ralph Wood, who died during the ‘big storm’ that occurred on 2-3 February 1936, and was buried near here.

See – Acc# 2004.043.0006 a programme of events for Wednesday, March 1st (1928 or 1932 ?) that includes - 11 am Arrival of “Southern Cross” and welcome. 11.30 am Passenger flights in the world’s most famous aeroplane, “The Southern Cross”. 1.30 pm Aviation display arranged by the Wellington Aero Club. Later that evening at the Levin Regent Theatre, officials of the Levin Aero Club will present Air Commodore Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith to the audience during the performance of “Emma”. He did not appear. Rumour says he went to P.N. ‘woman hunting’.

Taken at the back of Regent Lane, looking towards rear of where Unichem Chemist is now (2007) on Oxford Street.

Harveys Joinery Ltd leased a large block of the land down the nothern end of what is now called Regent Lane, extending from approximately the northern boundary of Regent Court (which replaced Regent Theatre) to almost where the lane sweeps to the west (now occupied by Farmers). 2 end sections were leased to Williams Bakery (tearooms on Oxford Street) and Fred Pink (shoe shop on Oxford Street).
