Photo of Flora McDonald taken in a garden. Flora is wearing a dress which comes down to her ankles and has a wide hem. It appears to be of a sprigged material and has a collar with a white over-collar. A large white tie completes the outfit. Flora is also wearing a white underblouse, a straw hat with a wide brim, a dark coral [?] necklace and black leather boots. Her hair is down. In the background is a high wooden fence and a wooden power-pole. Bush covered hills are in the distance.

Flora McDonald on horseback

Inscription on front:- “To Mum from Flora 9 3 08.” Inscription on reverse:- Flora McDonald ( Daughter of Hector McDonald, Native Interpreter). She married a Mr Ranald Aloysius MacDonald and lived her life of 82 years in Levin.” Also :- “Rode and drove at A & P Shows also went to the Hunt Club meets.”

Flora McDonald in formal riding outfit including bowler hat, sitting side-saddle on a horse in a garden setting. Flora holds a riding crop in her right hand and double reigns in both hands. The horse has a small white blaze on its forehead and a cropped tail.

Inscription on front reads:- “To Mum from Flora 9 3 08.”

Inscription on reverse reads:- “Flora McDonald ( Daughter of Hector McDonald, Native Interpreter). She married a Mr Ranald Aloysius MacDonald and lived her life of 82 years in Levin.”

Hokio Stream, bridge near 'Lakeside'

Mrs Hector Hugh McDonald (nee Mary Rigg), stands on a bridge across the Hokio Stream near ‘Lakeside’ (the McDonald home). With her are her two daughters, Flora (centre) and Theresa Hinemoa (left). A large dog is also standing on the bridge which has a wooden canoe alongside it.

Tell Mary I would like to go up very much but am afraid I will not be able to go as Father is going up North tomorrow and wont be back for some time. Snow at ‘Lakeside’, the residence of Hector Hugh McDonald, on what is now Moutere Road. The young woman is Flora McDonald eldest daughter of Hector Hugh and the dog is “Jock”. This photograph is taken looking north and the Te Maai ridge is in the background.
