H.E.P.B. Shannon Sub Station, Stafford Street (c.1925 ? see below) 1 B&W photo print

View from street with school building visible in background (right).

Date c.1925 cannot be correct, as this building has a solid front porch that appears new (seen also in 1961 photo {HEPB Collection} prior to demolition of the building), comparison with photo #.0028 shows porch has not yet been built, indicating photo probably taken c.1925 and this photo taken 1930’s.

Dean & Rawson empty cordial/soft drink bottle (with marble)

Dean & Rawson empty cordial/soft drink bottle (with marble)

Small thick walled heavy clear glass bottle with ‘pinched’ neck 1/3 from top to keep glass marble from falling to bottom. Date of manufacture and use unknown.

Wording moulded into bottle: DEAN & RAWSON on opposite side - DEVON STREET Cannington Shaw & Co Ld WORKS MAKERS LEVIN St Helens, England

on bottom - 9962 U. G. B.

At ‘pinch’ in neck of bottle, a slot has been cut so small coins can be inserted, turning the bottle into a money box. Slot is just large enough for 5 cent coin to fit through, but top of bottle is too small for 5 cent coin to pass, this has been demonstrated with a 5 cent coin (dated 1975) that is in the bottle. {It is unknown when the coin was inserted or by whom}

View from street with house (left), Bank building in distant background and Shannon School (background, right).

Information on back of photo gives date 1930’s, however this is not likely as comparison with photo #.0026 (dated c.1925) shows that building to have a solid front porch (seen also in 1961 photo {HEPB Collection} prior to demolition of the building) which is absent in this photo, indicating this photo probably taken c.1925 and photo #.0026 taken 1930’s.
