Used in Chronicle newspaper supplement – ‘Levin Borough 75th Jubilee, 1906-1981’, page 64, with caption – Looks like Chainey’s.

The interior of an unidentified shop, possibly in Levin. A man in a suit stands alongside a wooden counter. Bicycles and tyres are to the left of the photograph while Columbus radios are advertised prominently. A wireless sits on the centre of the counter.

The opening of Levin’s Industries Fair, Memorial Hall, 16 September,1957. Mr E Wise, the Mayor is addressing those assembled. Inscribed on a banner across top of stage is “Your future is in Levin, industry means progress.”

Weraroa Post Office

Single storied weatherboard rectangular building with an iron roof. A gable rises to an apex in the centre front of the building and the windows are of the sash variety. There is are small sloping roofs over each of the two doorways at the front of the building, and above the northern side enterance. To the right closed wooden doors secure the enterance to the main part of the Post Office. The enterance to the left gives access to the Postal Box foyer.

Camden Building, 217 – 219 Oxford Street, Levin. 1 B&W photo print

Two storied brick building with iron roof on western side of Oxford Street. There are five sash windows on the upper floor with four of them being set in arched upper concrete frames, while the fifth is in a square concrete frame. On the lower floor are two shops with a solid door which gives acces to the top floor, situated in the centre.

217 Oxford Street – Oscar Edwards Footwear currently (2000) – Levin Shoes. 219 Oxford Street – Ray Harrison, Hairdresser-Tobacconist currently (2000) – Patz Fashion & Jewellery.

Bulliman Bros. Family Butcher's shop, Oroua Downs

Stamped below photo, on mounting board with purple ink: “H. Wellman, photographer.”

Penciled on back: ” Butchers shop, Oroua Downs. Donated by Mrs McGrail, Cambridge St., Levin. Her former husband was Shailer. Had butchers shop at Oroua Downs. Ancestor was Colonel Bluet, Maori wars. F.C.S.”

Bulliman Bros. Family Butcher’s shop, Oroua Downs. Staff from the shop are outside the shop with many on horseback. two horse drawn carts appear to be used for delivery purposes in addition to a mounted rider who has a cane basket on his arm. There is a wide footpath outside the shop and the road is constructed of large stones.

Inscriptions on reverse read: “First flower stall on southern approach to Levin, run by Mrs G D McDonell.” and “First roadside flowershop in district. Mrs McDonell Main Rd. South Levin. South of Travel Lodge Motel. c 1945 – 1960s.”

The first flower stall located on the western side of the Main South Road, Levin. The stall which was situated south of the Travel lodge motel, was owned and run by Mrs McDonell,

James Hughes and three others - at Arcadia Bakery

Written on back - James Hughes (Jim) left (deceased 1986, aged 72). Arcadia bread van indicates that the scene is at the Arcadia Bakery on the corner of Devon & Oxford Streets, now (1996) Kentucky Fried Chicken. (Photo could be when Jim inherited bakery from his father ?).

James Hughes three other unidentified men alongside a van marked Arcadia Bakery. The Arcadia Bakery was situated on the corner of Oxford and Devon Streets where Kentucky Fried Chicken is currently situated.
