Foxton Bandat D Grade Brass Band Competitions, 1956

Inscriptions on reverse read: “N Z Brass Bands Ass. Invercargill D Grade March 1956 1st in March 2nd in Hymn”. “See in Judges Remarks envelope” “Foxton Band Street March Invercargill W Wilkinson Conductor”

Foxton Band during the street march section of the D Grade Brass Band Competitions held in Invercargill in 1956. The band came second in the street march and first in the hymn competions of their grade. W Wilkinson was the conductor.

Original and one copy which is attached to a sheet of white paper with another photograph.

Foxton Brass Band

Two pieces of paper accompany this photograph. The inscription on the first reads: “As I think I know the names but the Rand’s men probably know them all. Standing – Drum I think a walls, C H Collins (my father), Speirs (I think), Bill Owen, Knewth, (unknown). Sitting, First three unknown, 4th T Betty and I think two Rands. Laying down, Fred Collins and Fred Robinson. Band was early 1900s. Rands can probably give you full particulars.” On the same piece of paper but in a different hand and colour “Have this from Stan Collins”

On the second piece of paper the following names are typewritten – 1. Arthur Lee 2. Charles Collins 3. John Speirs 4. W H Owens 5. Bert Newth 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Tom Betty 11. Robert Rand 12. Cave Rand 13. Fred Collins 14. Fred Robertson

Written below photo with blue ballpoint pen – names of people in photo, however, some of these names may not be correct, as a piece of card with names more clearly identifying the people present (see below), was attached to cover these names.
