Four scenes of Levin c.1909. The top left shows Oxford Street north of the Oxford Street / Queen Street intersection looking south-east. The top right shows a cyclist and a horse and trap on The Avenue. The bottom left shows a busy scene at the railway yards at Weraroa with Prouse’s sawmill in the background. The bottom right shows a group on the western hills overlooking Lake Horowhenua.

Bullock team - The Avenue

A print of photograph 1977.011.0016, showing a bullock wagon transporting logs south along The Avenue towards Levin, probably before 1900. The untouched native bush lines both sides of the road.

Miss Bowen's House

Inscription on reverse reads: ” Miss Bowen’s house. Donated Mr Joyce 3/77 No 2 Karaka Cres, Levin see also Miss H E Bowen Built late 1905 for TAB Hudson.”

Miss Bowen’s house at 2 Karaka Crescent Levin. This weatherboard house with an iron roof has two brick chimneys and a verandah on two sides. A false turret is attached to the verandah. This house was built in 1905.

Miss Bowen (left) with the Mayor and Mayoress of Levin, Mr and Mrs Parton, with other ladies in the background. Mr Parton was Mayor of Levin from 1950 to 1953. The group is standing outside the front door of an unidenified house. Mrs Florence Algie is standing to the left of Miss Bowen.

Oxford Street, Levin

Inscription on reverse reads: “Keep your feet dry. love.” and Miss Stella Worth c/o…......” remainder of inscription is unreadable

Oxford Street looking south along the eastern side from the Oxford Street / Queen Street intersection. This photograph has been taken after 1903 when the Post Office was opened. The street is unsealed and a single gas lamp sits atop a standard in the middle of the intersection.
