Three sisters Diane, Kathy, and Pirihira are pictured here with the 'Platters'.The Warren Sisters were known for their harmonious voices. The sisters come from a family that was very musical, as most of their brothers and sisters played and sang in bands.

RNZAF Band and Carnival Queens, 1941

No information on back, however, the photocopy for V/F has copy of information attached that appears to have been on back of a mounted photo, possibly a duplicate as follows – ” National R.N.Z.A.F. Band. Playing at Levin recreational ground for funds for their queen in carnival in 1941 carnival. Maureen O’Conner – Citizen’s Queen. Ellen McDonald – Airforce Queen. Barbara Blenkhorn – Business Queen.”

Additional handwriting: ” Horowhenua Historical Society. Probably when band played in Regent Theatre 21/3/1941. The Queen Carnival finished on 7/4/1941.”

RNZAF Band and Carnival Queens, 1941. The band is seated on a temporary bandstand, which is sitting on 44-gallon drums. The three Queens stand in front of the bandstand with an Air Force officer. Foxton Band during the street march section of the D Grade Brass Band Competitions held in Invercargill in 1956. The band came second in the street march and first in the hymn competions of their grade. W Wilkinson was the conductor.

Two pieces of paper accompany this photograph. The inscription on the first reads: “As I think I know the names but the Rand’s men probably know them all. Standing – Drum I think a walls, C H Collins (my father), Speirs (I think), Bill Owen, Knewth, (unknown). Sitting, First three unknown, 4th T Betty and I think two Rands. Laying down, Fred Collins and Fred Robinson. Band was early 1900s. Rands can probably give you full particulars.” On the same piece of paper but in a different hand and colour “Have this from Stan Collins”
