Five of the seven Adkin children taken in 1900. They are standing on the verandah of a weatherboard house, and the three youngest children are holding hands.

Marjorie (3), Dora (5), Gilbert (7), Clare (9) and Leslie (11). Later arrivals were Vivien (1900) ans Clifford (1902).

HHS No. 9. Caption: “The home, comprising twenty rooms, had six fireplaces of which this one, in the dining room was typical”.

Fireplace in the dining room at ’ Cheslyn Rise’. The brick fireplace has a carved wooden surround and a wooden mantlepiece. Coloured tiles are at both sides of the fireplace and underneath the mantlepiece. Ornaments, photographs and a clock are sitting on the mantlepiece. HHS No. 8. Caption: “Cheslyn Rise looking east showing bushclad hills and felled trees. The blocks of land were balloted for in Palmerston North on Wednesday March 20 1889. 46 people wanted the favourite and most valuable block of land No. 42 (100 acres). W G Adkin was successful securing it for £2 per acre. He later secured adjoining blocks”.
