Built on a half acre site, partly covered in manuka and flax, the first Catholic Church in Levin was built in Mako Mako Road in 1898. The opening ceremony was conducted by Archbishop Redwood. Prior to this building being erected the first Catholic Church in the district was St Michael’s at Poroutawhao.
