Note below photograph reads: “St Andrews Roman Catholic Church Mako Mako Road. Built 1898 shifted to Waitarere 1950.”

Inscription on reverse reads: “Levin Dear Marion Your Post Card received do not go out to the Hutt if you do not want to time is short. I was very pleased you are having a good time I hope you will feel better for the change Has been raining here all week. No news love from Mother”

Built on a half acre site, partly covered in manuka and flax, the first Catholic Church in Levin was built in Mako Mako Road in 1898. The opening ceremony was conducted by Archbishop Redwood. Prior to this building being erected the first Catholic Church in the district was St Michael’s at Poroutawhao.
