Levin Dye-Works Limited began operations in Totara Street 20 years ago as Commission Dyers and Finishers with a staff of 6. Today they have the largest Dye House and Finishing Plant south of Auckland specialising in all types of fabrics.
In 1966, a Synthetic Yarn Processing Division was added which is now New Zealand's largest producer of textured and speciality yarns. This Division is housed in two factories at Tiro Tiro Road.
In 1973 Amvic Fabrics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Levin Dye-Works, began operations as Circular Fabric Knitters in seperate premises in Totara Street. Today Amvic is the country's fastest growing producer of Circular Knit Fabrics using man-made and natural yarns.
The two Companies now occupy over 110,000 square feet in four main locations in Levin. The Group employ 150 staff, sales turnover in 1981 will exceed $7,500,000 and the Group will spend $1,700,000 in Levin on wages, salaries and services this year.
Recognising the buying publics demand for new and fashionable fabrics and garments, the Company is constantly experimenting with the production of various types of yarns, fabrics and fabric finishes. New products to be released in 1981 include wool content fancy twist and boucle yarns for commercial and home machine knitters.
