The Paint Pot Celebrates 25 years in business...
In 1956, Herb and Rose Halliwell started THE PAINT POT in Barraud and Abraham's old building on the corner of Mako Mako Road and Oxford Street. A move was later made to the northern end of Levin to where Antcliffs building now stands. About 1965 another move was made to the present site in the Manchester Unity Lodge Building, 268 Oxford Street. In 1971 Roger Halliwell bought out his parents who shortly after retired.

NEW NAME-SAME SERVICE
The name on the building has just changed from The Paint Pot Ltd to PWF HOME DECORATING CENTRE but the staff and ownership remain the same. The Paint Pot is a member of the PWF GROUP which is made up of 50 shops all individually owner-operated but all advertise under the same name of PWF HOME DECORATING CENTRE. Trading under the name of PWF Home Decorating Centre, offers better buying prices and thus the public gains by beter selling prices.

Talus Brushware has been part of the Levin Community since 1956.
In that year, the Company moved from its factory in Wellington to a new factory on the corner of Cambridge & Prouse Streets Levin.
Toothbrushes and vacuum Cleaner brushes were the initial brushware products manufactured. The years since 1956 have seen considerable expansion with the move into Power brush manufacture in 1960. Household brushware in 1965 and Ladies & Gents Vanity Brushware in 1968.
The Company's confidence in Levin as an ideal location for its operation has been confirmed by its extensive building programme over the years with the latest addition being a 4500 cub metre raw materials warehouse opened in 1979 and a 2800 cub metre finished goods warehouse in January, 1981.
On the first of May, 1980 the Parent Company acquired the plant and stock of Bunting and Co Christchurch, thus adding to the product range Paint Brushes and accessories, Ring-a-Mop products and additional Household brushware lines. This move established Talus Brushware as the largest Brushmaker in N.Z. and the most diversified in the Southern Hemisphere, with manufacturing plants in Levin and Christchurch and Head Office at Cambridge Street Levin.

CONGRATULATIONS LEVIN ON YOUR 75TH ANNIVERSARY

As New Zealand's second largest poultry organisation, we have in our own small way played a part in the success story behind Levin. To qualify the above claim, we produce some 30,000 day old pullets chicks (approximately 51% of the N.Z. market) and some 90,000 day old meat chicks weekly.
Nationally we employ some 300 plus people including some 200 in the Horowhenua area. Apart from our business activities we are conscious of our responsibilities to the district.

To this end we decided to enter into a sponsorship scheme with the Levin, Waitarere Surf Lifesaving Club. It is appropriate that in this the 75th anniversary year, the local Surf Club enjoyed their most successful competitive season to date, thus once again keeping the name, Levin, to the fore.
We are proud to be a part of Levin and look forward to a long and happy association with the town and the people of Levin.
