Taueki family in 'Hamaria' canoe, Lake Horowhenua, 1926

Printed on front of mounting board, top right, with black ink: “P 23”

Written on back with black ballpoint pen: “P23 Horowhenua Historical Society. Members of Taueki family spearing eels, Lake Horowhenua, 9 June 1926. G.L. Adkin photograph.”

Also written on back with black & blue pens: “T.E. Haumaria canoe, Gentle Wind.”

Three members of the Taueki family in the ‘Hamaria’ canoe on Lake Horowhenua. The woman sitting in the canoe at the left is Sybil Taueki. Man in centre of photograph wearing a shirt, pullover, dark trousers and a brimmed hat is standing and using a spear used for eeling. The man on the right is also standing in the canoe. He is bare-headed and is wearing a long dark coat. He is holding a taiaha.

All three persons and the waka are reflected in the lake water.

Two unidentified women and one unidentified man sitting in Hamaria canoe at Lake Horowhenua. To the left is an unidentified Maori woman with her hair tied back from her face. She is wearing a checked overcoat over a floral print dress. Opposite her sitting on the rim of the waka is an unidentified European man wearing a short sleeved shirt and long trousers. In front of him, sitting in the bottom of the waka, is an unidentified European woman, wearing a print dress which has white facings and cuffs at the edge of the short sleeves. Her hair is pinned up on top of her head, and she is holding a straw hat with a large brim in her left hand. One of a series of three black and white photos (see also 2000.354.0000 & 2000.354.0002)
