MacArthur Street, Levin about 1912. Taken from the rise near Cambridge Street, this photograph looks east towards the Tararua range. On the right hand side of the metal track that is the road are two wooden houses. Native bush is behind the two houses.

Ploughing at Cheslyn Rise’, c.1916. A three horse team is being used to pull the plough. The two storied house in the backgroung (right) is ‘Cheslyn Rise’ the home of the Adkin family. The foothills of the Tararua Range are in the background.

Cheslyn Rise, Queen St East

HHS No. 8. Caption: “Cheslyn Rise looking east showing bushclad hills and felled trees. The blocks of land were balloted for in Palmerston North on Wednesday March 20 1889. 46 people wanted the favourite and most valuable block of land No. 42 (100 acres). W G Adkin was successful securing it for £2 per acre. He later secured adjoining blocks”.
