This lace could be either of two things.

1 Machine made. Hand introduced gump thread, a take-off of Buck’s Point. Era around 1860 onwards.

2 Hand made Valence, most unusual to have here in New Zealand.

Silk baby's gown.

One silk and lace, pintucked baby’s gown with square collar, buttoning at back. This was gifted by the Countess of Ranfurly to Louise Bruno, (French governess to her children) who married William Johnstone (the Ranfurly’s footman). Their baby was born in 1902.
