The engine room of Miranui Flax Mill, c 1908. Miranui was the largest flaxmill ever built in New Zealand and was situated on the Shannon to Tokomaru highway. The flaxmill was opened in 1907. In this photograph nine men and a small girl are pictured alongside the suction gas engines in the engine room which is lined with timber.

Four unidentified children pose for this outdoor portrait. The three boys all wear jackets and shorts with knee-length socks, and the small girl who shares a seat with one of the older boys is dressed in white with white knee-length socks and brown sandals. The four children are unidentifies but the names “Ian, Ronald, Tommy and Barbara” and their respective ages are written on the back of the photograph.
