Bock and Coley Flaxmill

The original photograph is mounted on board. Inscription on reverse reads: “Given by Podmore family.”

The sepia coloured copy has been fixed to thick paper and has inscribed below the photograph: “Bock and Coley’s Flaxmills, Stewart Street, Foxton, 1912. (Negative held by I R Matheson 1975).”

The black and white copy has inscribed on reverse: “Original given by Podmore family.” and “Bock & Coley Mill.”

A sepia coloured photograph showing an unidentified group of 18 workers standing in front of the Bock and Coley flaxmill, Foxton. There is a man standing on one dray pulled by two horses to the right of the photograph and in the centre and left behind the row of workers are two more such drays. The mill is made up of four buildings.

"Flaxies" at Berrys Mill

Black and white photograph is fixed to firm paper. Above the photograph inscription reads: ” “Flaxies” at Berry’s Mill, Foxton (c1920). Negative held by I R Matheson 1975.”

Inscription below the photograph reads: “From left to right:- 1. Mr Jacobsen. 2. Arthur Thomas. 3. Ted Leach. 4. Unknown. 5. Unknown. 6. Royal Pitihera. 7. Tom Chaffey. 8. Unknown. 9. Bob Cochran. 10. Harry Lampp.”

and “These photos are on loan from Mr Colin Cochran of 39 Cook Street, Foxton, son of late Bob Cochran, flaxmiller. (1969).”

A group of “Flaxies” at Berrys Mill Foxton c 1920. The 10 men stand in front of an open ended corrugated iron shed. The man to the left has a bundle of flax in his left hand. Several of the men are wearing aprons and all are dressed for physical labour. Those in the photograph include Mr Jacobsen, Arthur Thomas, Ted Leach, Royal Pitihere, Tom Chaffey, Bob Cochran, and Harry Lamp.
