Start of Bike Race

Inscription on reverse reads: “For R E Henderson. Donated V Doyle 52 Queen Street Levin nee V Henderson. Cr diagonally across from the P.O.”

Two cyclists prepare to start a race while a crowd stands on the street to watch. The photograph has been taken in Oxford Street at the intersection with Queen Street, looking north. The north west corner of the intersection has a book arcade which faces both Queen and Oxford Streets.

The commercial permises of Marco Fosella with a largely unidentified group standing outside. Marco Fosella has been identified as the man standing second from the left. This shop which was located on the western side of Oxford Street was built in 1897

P.O. with training farm boys

Inscriptions on reverse read: “V Doyle. 52 Queen Street Levin. Nee V Henderson.” and “D of Ted Henderson Byko shop Oxford St 1920 – 40s. Before 1920 Est. F.C.S. Prob. before 1915.”

A coloured postcard showing pipe and drum band along with boys from the Weraroa Training Farm at an official occasion which took place outside the Post Office at the Oxford Street / Queen Street intersection. The occasion is unknown but the photograph has been taken sometime after 1910.

Service of Commemoration of the death of Edward VII, 1910. Taken from the upper story of the Levin Hotel looking across the intersection of Oxford and Queen Streets towards the commercial premises on the north east corner. Dignitaries are seated beneath the gas lamp at the centre of the intersection. The lamp has been covered by the New Zealand ensign.
