Top to bottom - a) ‘Shannon Public School. 5182 Wilson photos’, 1917 or 1921. {copy} Amount and type of building material indicates recent construction. The building as shown had final additions completed in 1917. The new Infant ‘School’ was constructed in 1921 some distance to the right of this building. Used in book – “Shannon School Centennial Souvenir 1989”, page 9, with caption - Shannon School between 1921 and 1930.
b) Mr Bill Rowling and Mrs Tirikatene-Sullivan visit Shannon School, 22 March 1978. {original} Mr Rowling was Leader of the Opposition and Mrs Tirikatene-Sullivan was M.P. (Southern Maori) at this time.

The road and railway line between Shannon and the Opiki turn-off after the gale and flood in Shannon in 1917. Taken from the highway this photograph looks south showing telegraph poles which have been blown to one side in the gale
