Embroidered Banner – “Kimberley W.I.”, 1933 (?)

Mounted with wooden rod and rope cord at top, so it can be readily hung on wall or lecturn etc. Black velvet background with gold border and fringed at bottom. Quilt style rising sun with”W.I.” letters embroidered at centre, and name KIMBERLEY embroidered between rays of sun above the centre. Flowers – Scarlet Pimpernel and Rata embroidered below the sun emblem.

Made when the movement was known as the “Women’s Institute” (later renamed the “Country Women’s Institute” in 1952).

Kimberley Women’s Institute was formed in 1933.

2 medals (pins) were pinned to the banner (see – #.0002 & #.0003).

Any use of this image must be accompanied by the credit “Horowhenua Historical Society Inc.”
