Inscription on reverse reads: “SS Wakanui loading flax fibre at Glascow Wharf, Wellington about 1910 – 20. (Copy negative held by I R Matheson 1975).”

The “SS Wakanui” loading flax fibre at Glasgow Wharf Wellington 1910-1920. The “Wakanui is a masted ship which is also powered by steam. In this photograph she sits next to the wharf with a crane loading bales of flax fibre onto her. A dray with bales of flax fibre is outside a shed on the left of the photograph.
