law who lived in town until hubby could collect me. At 3.00am the pains were severe and the waters broke.

My-sister-in-law didn't have a car and there were no taxi's in town.

The only way at that hour to go to the Home was, on the carrier of her push-bike!

I arrived safely and had a son at 6.30 am.

OOPS...!


I was a patient myself in 1963, and had trouble with too much milk. One day I saw the new Sister coming on duty and prayed to myself that I would be able to make my baby drink properly. Just as the Sister entered the ward, my breast decided to project out a great stream of milk and it went all over the Sisters nice fresh clean uniform!

Some of us were from the days of innocence,. .and this little anecdote will show one how much.


I was in the maternity home with my first baby, a daughter.
All four other new Mothers had given birth to sons.
They were having their sons circumcised.
I decided, and asked that my baby should have it too...

A Nice Person's Happy Memory


I was waiting for Doctor Teppett to come to circumcise my baby. He came rushing in on the Friday night, and said, "Where's this kid that needs circumcising, I want to get home and watch "Z Cars"

It was the year 1960 when I was delivered of my fourth baby in three years at the Foxton Maternity Home.

My first baby was born in January 1958, the second in February 1959, and my third in January 1960, then number four in December 1960!
