Head and shoulders portrait of Robert McLean. Information on the reverse of this photograph reads:-
“Robert McLean came to Foxton in 1877 after spending several years goldmining in Australia. He became a Methodist lay preacher in 1866, often proclaiming to three or four thousand miners.
When Foxton became a seperate parish in 1879, as no minister was available, Robert McLean filled in as temporary minister.
His grocery and hardware shop was called ‘The Other Store” until the time of his death at the age of 66 on June 28 1892, just a month after Christian Honere.”
