Typed on paper glued to back: “Flag raising ceremony to commemorate the Centenary of the Manakau Post Office. 1-8-1887
—1-8-1987. A celebration was held on Monday 3-8-87 when a large gathering of local towns-people & school children attended. Also present in official capacities were Messrs. — M.R. Monteith (Post Office Area Manager), Malcom Guy (County Chairman), Marsden Staples (County Councillor), Ivan Drake (Son of one of the Original Settlers), Ian Bowden (Chairman Manakau District Association). Mrs June Woolley, a local inhabitant and District Historian, provided a beautiful cake & a sumptuous morning tea.”View of the ceremony to mark the Centenary of Manakau Post Office, 1987. This photograph looks south and shows the crowd watching the New Zealand Ensign being raised. In the background is the Manakau Hotel.
