Written with blue ballpoint pen on piece of paper glued to back: “Alexander John Hadfield. 1842. Probably taken in England before he migrated to N.Z. in October 1861. 1867-78 farmed Waitawa Lake Station (Forest Lakes) then bought ‘Netley’ (Ngawhakangutu Block). 1881-09 represented Horowhenua Riding on Manawatu County Council. 1885 first Chairman Horowhenua County Council. Copied by J. Cleland P.Nth 1934 from print owned by R.A. Brown, Marshall St., Wanganui (grandson of Hadfield).”
