Early milking shed with cows being hand-milked, early 1900’s ? 1 B&W photo print, copy
A multi-bay shed with 1 cow per bay. The shed is leaning slightly to the left. The roof is corrugated iron and looks to be in excellent condition. 4 people (unidentified) – man & 2 women milking while girl watches.
Used in book – “From Bush & Swamp”, page 63, with caption - An early milking shed, before the days of milking machines. The sheds allowed sufficient height to accommodate only the cows, but were a great advance on milking the cows in the open. Women did their share of the work even then – two of the three milkers are women.
