Large group of adults and children assembled outside the school building.
Miss Lily Feist appointed sole teacher. At beginning of year 21 pupils were enrolled (11 previously attended the Shannon School, 4 attended the Tokomaru School and 6 commenced schooling for the first time) and by the end of the year 30 children were attending the school. {see page 250 of book “Tokomaru School and District Centenary 1893 – 1993” for list of ‘First Year Pupils’}
School destroyed by fire on Tuesday night, 19 July 1955. New building completed for use by September 1956. School [teachers] residence was not built until 1959. The school officially closed on Friday 23 August 1974 with 9 enrolled pupils who would now attend Tokomaru School.
