Muaupoko - I did not hear anything about excluding these tribes from the land retained by Nepia (from sale). I understood that the land behind his back was for all those tribes he took Ngati Apa and Rangitane and put them behind him - (took them as it were under his wing and included them as owning the land kept back from sale) I seeing that Nepia had reinstated Ngati Apa and Rangitane as owners after telling me that the boundary was to limit my claim worth. I ran forward and pressed into the ranks of those who were behind Nepia.

Himatangi is the name of a sand hill and gives its name to a 'Motu Nga here here' which is just below it.

The resident tribes on the Rangitikei Manawatu block at the time of sale were:-

Ngati Parewaka waka : -

Nepia, Apertahama and others - All these have signed

Ngati Kahoro : -

Horomona and Kereama - these and some others of this tribe have signed - others refused to do so -

objectors are resident

Miritana and

Purnipi

Ngati Maniapoto : -

Te Wiremu - some have signed some have not dont know how many are residing at kakariki.

Patu Kohuru : -

Self - all have signed.

Ngati Pikiahu : -

Noa te Rauhihi - some signed - some not.

Ngati Kawhata : -

Tapa - some have signed - some not.

Ngati Wehi Wehi : -

Paora - one section signed and one section has not signed.

Ngati Parengaua : -

Te Rei paehua - some have signed some not - kirimihama is one - dont know how many more

These are tribes who are living on Rangitikei - I omitted some of the tribes.

Ngati turanga : -

Chief Arapata Te Whioi, Arapata only has signed.

Ngati Rakau : -

Tarartea - not signed, or people

Ngati Te Au : -

Parakaia and Pitihira, Don't know whether they have signed.

These tribes named by me are the only tribes of Ngati Raukawa who had a right to take part in the sale of the block.

Don't know how many years Te Whatanui had been here when I came - He had been long here - I came to Te PatuKohuru under Tai Kapurua - Ngati Upoko iri [iwi] came after us. TaiKapurua came with Te Whatanui. I went with Te Momo to Heretaunga and came thence here. We were the Survivors at Te Totoatara and came to 'tutuope'.

'I oma mai ki konei' (some) and others 'i oma atu ki Taupo' - 'Tai mai ki konei'. Some of Ngati Raukawa came after me. Ngati Raukawa were in great numbers here when we arrived.

I was here at Haowhenua - I believe peace was made at Waikanae. After the peace was made the Ngati Raukawa left the 'pa', I heard the 'Kaumatua's say that Ngati Raukawa were invited to come here by Rauparaha - I did not hear of Kukutauaki as a boundary. I never heard of any proclamation.

Ngatitama and Te Puoho were living at Ngawhakangutu on this side of Kukutauaki. Ngati Raukawa were living at Waitaheke. The land on this side of Manawatu belongs to Ngati Raukawa, this land belonged formerly to Rangitane, Muaupoko and Ngat Apa - now belongs to some (not all) of the 'hapu's' of Ngati Raukawa.

Patu Kohuru and I have land there - I know the boundaries of my land - Patu Kohuru - I could point them out to a surveyor so that he could make a plan - the disputes about boundaries have been settled long ago.

Rangitane are not joint owners because 'Kua Kapi i a au'. My lands join Ngati Whakatane lands on their side of Manawatu. We have arranged boundaries of the Ngati Raukawa 'Ki reira' and the Rangitane a Manga wharawhara - Ngati te upoko iri [iwi] have no lands there now. Ngati Upoko iwi had lands but abandoned - who heard of the 'panuitanga' leaving these lands to Rangitane? - the Ngati Raukawa and Rangitane boundary was the year of the arrangements about Te Ahu o turanga given to Te Hirawanu - that boundary was fixed as boundary 'rohe atu i a Rangitane' and 'hei rohe mai i Ngati Raukawa ki tenei taha' Rangitane agreed to that boundary - I am clear about that boundary.

If Hirawanu had not accepted that as a boundary we should have urged and on his assent being given we agreed to it. Muaupoko have no land there, Muaupoko had 'pa's' at the time of the treaty on the lands of their ancestors - Horowhenua - ngati Apa have no interest on our lands on this side of Manawatu.

100 Chiefs of Ngati Raukawa fixed the boundaries of the Ngati Raukawa and Rangitane lands (South boundary of Ahu o Turanga block). Don't know whether Ngati Apa had an interest in land on this side through their ancestors.

Horowhenua is the only place on this side it belongs to Muaupoko Hunia's tribe. It was said by Nepia and understood when the boundary was fixed that Rangitane should not cross that boundary - if they occupied South of that line it would be a 'noho tikanga kore' There is one person, Huru of Ngai Tutaiaroa a Rangitane occupying connected with Ngati Whakatere (woman) but it is a 'noho tikanga kore' - Could not sell - the boundary on the Oroua side.

I heard that Ngati Raukawa and Rangitane fixed that. I was not present when the arrangement was made. I was at Te Awahou. I was not sent for. I had no land at Oroua - this boundary was probably the same as the one we arranged but it is different.
