- Description
FIRE AT PAIAKA.
Last Friday morning the woolshed at Paiaka, the property of Mr R. Gardner was destroyed by fire.
The origin of the fire is unknown, and the building was uninsured.
The loft, where the fire originated, was filled with oaten sheaves and hay, valued at about £60. Everything but a dozen bales of tow was saved from the ground floor, all the hands working with a will, the fire raging too quickly to prevent them being got out in time.
The shed was a very old one, but the different uses it 'was made of, makes it. a difficult matter to replace.
The old landing-stage from the shed to the river was alse partly destroyed.
We believe it will mean a loss to Mr Gardner of something like £300 or £400.
