Jetty & boatshed lake Horowhenua

Inscription on photograph reads: “Horowhenua Lake Levin. (copyright symbol) A6058 Lucas Series”. Inscription on reverse reads: “Horowhenua Lake. Note the jetty. A Mr Niven used to run a launch to the other side of the lake & it was quite a popular picnic spot on holidays. The hills over the other side was infested with rabbits & in no time you could shoot as many as you could carry. The Manuka scrub was ideal cover for them”. Also: “Donated by Mr C Simes”.

Bullock team hauling water pipes.

Bullock team of ten bullocks, hauling water pipes on a wagon. To the left, one unidentified man stands alongside the bullock team. The second man, who is also unidentified, stands at the rear of the wagon.

"Flood" outside "Byko" shop

Penciled on back: “From Miss D. Brewster.”

Two boys in a canoe outside The “Byko” store on the northe-eastern corner of the Oxford Street / Queen Street intersection. Although the water is deep enough to paddle the canoe through, it has not reached the inside of the store door, where two unidentified men watch the two boys from. The water is lying across the footpath and onto the road up as far as the skating rink wher two more men are standing.

To the left are two unidentified Maori women with short hair, one of whom is holding a baby in a striped blanket. The Hamaria canoe is parallel to the shore with two unidentified males, four unidentified youths and a black dog aboard. There are two other boats in the water, and one boat behind the two women.
