Jetty & boatshed lake Horowhenua

Inscription on photograph reads: “Horowhenua Lake Levin. (copyright symbol) A6058 Lucas Series”. Inscription on reverse reads: “Horowhenua Lake. Note the jetty. A Mr Niven used to run a launch to the other side of the lake & it was quite a popular picnic spot on holidays. The hills over the other side was infested with rabbits & in no time you could shoot as many as you could carry. The Manuka scrub was ideal cover for them”. Also: “Donated by Mr C Simes”.

A night photograph showing the King’s Theatre and John Milnes’ Levin Motor Garage, Oxford St., Levin. Situated a little north of the Chronicle office The King’s Theatre had previously been known as the Cosmos Theatre. The King’s Theatre also served as a skating rink.

Surf Club Building, Foxton Beach

The Surf Club building at Foxton Beach. This coloured photograph is mounted on white paper with the following inscription beneath the photograph: “THE SURF CLUB BUILDING AT FOXTON BEACH. The Foxton Surf and Lifesaving Club received a Bank of New South Wales award for their patrol work last season. An inflatable in-shore rescue craft is an important part of their equipment. Himatangi Beach is patrolled by the Palmerston North Surf and Lifesaving Club, which last season had close to record membership. A new patrol tower has been erected at the carpark.”
