Dr Samuel James Thompson, 1970

Written on back with blue ballpoint pen: “Dr Thompson.”

Written on piece of paper with black ballpoint pen: “Dr Samuel James Thompson, M.B., C.H.B., O.B.E. Was doctor in Levin, circa 1924, when he was Locum Tenens for Dr Gow. Bought practice 1926 and what is now Thompson House. Died still practicing 1973. Photo taken at Government when being invested with O.B.E. 1970. Original owned Thompson House.”

Dr Samuel James Thompson, MB, CHB, OBE. Taken 1970 when he was invested with an OBE. Doctor Thompson practised in Levin in1924 when he was locum tenens for Dr Gow. He bought the Gow practice in 1926 and lived in what is now Thompson House. Dr Thompson died in 1973.

Three members of the Taueki family in the ‘Hamaria’ canoe on Lake Horowhenua. The woman sitting in the canoe at the left is Sybil Taueki. Man in centre of photograph wearing a shirt, pullover, dark trousers and a brimmed hat is standing and using a spear used for eeling. The man on the right is also standing in the canoe. He is bare-headed and is wearing a long dark coat. He is holding a taiaha.

All three persons and the waka are reflected in the lake water.
