Electricity in Foxton

Post card has inscription on reverse reading: “Electricity comes to Foxton. Corner of Johnston St and Avenue Rd. Erecting pole at Christie corner – Mrs Trueman’s father. Johnston St Avenue Rd.

Erection of power pole on Christie Corner, (the corner of Avenue Road and Johnston Street), bringing the first electric power to Foxton. Two men stand atop a ladder, while a third holds the ladder, and a further man leans against the pole.

Four men, dressed for tramping, and a dog stand on tramline tracks which appear to run across a river bed. The four men are identified as being Bill Walker, Les Adkin, Jo Logan and Ernie Lancaster.
