Making eel baskets.” However, this photograph of a group of Maori making hinaki (eel traps) from flax under trees also appears in the McDonald collection as 1977.047.0037 and 1977.047.0044 with no reference to the Weraroa Boys Farm.

Three members of the Taueki family in the ‘Hamaria’ canoe on Lake Horowhenua. The woman sitting in the canoe at the left is Sybil Taueki. Man in centre of photograph wearing a shirt, pullover, dark trousers and a brimmed hat is standing and using a spear used for eeling. The man on the right is also standing in the canoe. He is bare-headed and is wearing a long dark coat. He is holding a taiaha.

All three persons and the waka are reflected in the lake water.
