On the 11th December 2007 the Library girls went for a walk up trig - and Megan fell over!
The shot of Megan being loaded into the chopper. There was no room for anyone so Jean and Wills drove through to meet her at the hospital.
This is a view taken by the medic on the Rescue Helicopter, looking down to the track on trig. You can see the clearing where the chopper landed, and Megan with her support team lying just above the site.
A very white Meg and a green Willy!
We had thoughfully placed Megan's head upon a pillow of empty V bottles - which may have been troubling her .. or it could have been the wayward kneecap which had swivelled around to a very odd place underneath her left leg.
Megan made a quick trip up to Palmerston hospital just to check that the kneep cap was all back in place properly.
Once she had been given enough drugs to knock a horse unconscious, the nice helicopter medic popped the kneecap back in, before loading her onto the stretcher.
Meg was holding onto Deb for an hour and half; here she is giving Deb the old vulcan death grip of pain. Eventually the rescue helicopter arrived with some serious drugs.
Next on the scene were the St John's ambulance crew. They had pain relief! Megan took a while to get the hang of the nitrous oxide.. She offered to show a bit of leg if they'd put her to sleep; strangely, her leg didn't hold the usual attraction (something to do with being horribly mishapen I think ...)
Meg's all smiles at this point . . hanging out at the top after the big walk up.
(L-R) Connor, Deb, Meg, Will and Chris at the top - stoking up on V and Moros!
Connor and Chris later ran and walked to the bottom to show emergency services where to go and keep Jean (Mum) company.
Meg kindly allowed us to take photos throughout her ordeal: that girl deserves a DB!
Meg dislocated her kneecap. We didn't try to move her, but called in the professionals and tried to keep her comfortable. At this point she was being very brave and could still muster a smile.
L-R : Jo, Will and Deb (Meg lying down)
Meg's soon-to-be support crew: Wills and Chris.
From the time we placed the 111 call we knew we would have at least 20 minutes on our own. Deb, Barb, Jo and Will kept Meg company while Chris and Connor went on down to the bottom. We passed the time best we could swapping stories about childbirth pain etc.
