Magic Lantern Slide- Farming

A slide depicting a traditional farming scene from New Zealand made in around the 1920s. Agriculture was a popular theme in New Zealand painting, photography and literature at the time. The fact that it formed the biggest part of our economy no doubt had something to do with this.

This slide was designed to be projected onto a wall using a 'magic lantern' projector. 


Armistice Day / Peace Parade, 1918

Typed on damaged piece of paper sellotaped to back: “Perhaps 1918 Peace Procession. Miss M. McKegg was the successful Carnival Queen (Later Mrs Easton). Mr Vickers dressed as John Bull.”

Children lead the Armistice Day Peace Parade, along Oxford Street and west down Queen Street in 1918. The photograph is takenacross the Oxford Street and Queen Street intersection looking west towards the Levin Hotel. There are flags across the intersection and hanging from buildings.

Three unidentified women sitting atop a Cobb and Co stagecoach crossing a river, on the beach ‘road’. The coach is drawn by four horses and driven by a male driver. The three women share two parasoles to protect them from the sun. A boy wearing a cloth cap and another person are barely visible inside the coach.

Horse riding in Target Reserve, Foxton - #CaptureYourHorowhenua

CaptureYourHorowhenua photography competition - Nature & Adventure / April 2022.

This picture was taken at Target Reserve in Foxton. It's one of the few safe places to ride a horse in the Horowhenua.
