Maud Herd, Hokio Stream, 1913

Stamped on back with black ink – Horowhenua Historical Society.

Maud Herd, later Mrs Leslie Adkin, sits astride a horse at the ford, Hokio Stream, in 1913. The ford is where the bridge now crosses the Hokio Stream on Golf Course Road. The home of Hector Hugh McDonald was to the left of this photograph. A footbridge made of wooden planks crosses the stream.

Hokio Stream, bridge near 'Lakeside'

Written on back with black ballpoint pen: “At Hokio Stream crossing, near ‘Lakeside’.”

Mrs Hector Hugh McDonald (nee Mary Rigg), stands on a bridge across the Hokio Stream near ‘Lakeside’ (the McDonald home). With her are her two daughters, Flora (centre) and Theresa Hinemoa (left). A large dog is also standing on the bridge which has a wooden canoe alongside it.
