Official start of Levin's Sewerage Scheme, 1953

Printed bottom of original, as caption: “Official start of Levin’s sewerage scheme. On the truck are Cr. A.J.H. Allen (left) the Mayor Mr A.W. Parton, (right), and borough engineer Mr E.J. Henshall (head and shoulders at centre). Later Mr H.E. Herring jumped up on the truck and spoke in criticism of technical aspects of the scheme.”

Memorial Hall opening, February 1956

Written on back with blue ballpoint pen - Inscription on reverse reads: “Opening Memorial Hall, Mr Herring, Mayor.”

Opening of the Levin Memorial Hall on the south western corner of Queen Street and Chamberlain Street. The hall was opened on Thursday, 16th February 1956. This photograph shows officials seated on ‘enclosed’ dais. with Mr H.E. Herring, Mayor (1953-56), speaking. Mrs Maud Lett (Clark) is seated to the far left of the photograph.
