This cemetery is the oldest known cemetery in the Manawatu and is a symbol of the racial harmony which characterised the development of the district. Ihakara Tukumaru is buried here together with early Pakeha settlers. The co-operation continues and a Queen Carnival held last year raised money for building projects at the Paranui and Motuiti Marae.”
