The Post Office at Waikanae at an unknown date. Outside the Post Office a man is sitting in a gig which is drawn by a horse. A bicycle is proped against the picket fence at the side of the building. In the right background are the foothills of the Tararua Ranges.

Penciled on back - This photo dates from 1878, not 1888. It was probably taken early in April 1878, for the view is described in “The Manawatu Times” newspaper (Palmerston North) of 13 April 1878 page 2. Photographer was W.J. Harding of Wanganui. Original glass negative is now in Alexander Turnbull Library, Wellington. I.R. Matheson 1/5/83

Levin Railway Station, c.1920. Situated on the eastern side of Oxford Street in Weraroa, this photograph shows the wooden building with an iron roof with the main entrance opening onto Oxford Street. In this photograph the road is unsealed but four early model cars are in front of the building.

Levin Post Office, on the south – eastern corner of the intersection of Oxford Street and Quee Street, Levin, c.1921. Two men ride their horseswhile another drives his buggy. Two cars are shown in Queen Street, while bicycles lean against the building. Three men are leaning on a lampost outside the front entrance to the building.
